Farm Engagement Session in Fall near Philadelphia | Sarah & Ryan

When a client tells us they want to have their fall engagement session at the groom’s family farm in West Chester – we happily oblige! Sounds like the perfect location for a fall photo shoot :) Sarah and Ryan are such a cute couple and we had an amazing time exploring the hayfields and stable playing with their favorite horse and even getting into a leaf fight!

Montrose Mansion Wedding in Villanova | Kerri & Bill

Kerri is our favorite type of bride because she trusted us completely and gave us unrestricted freedom to unleash our creativity (in fact, her actual wording in our pre-wedding form was: “we are up for any and all creative shots you may want to take – YOU ARE THE BOSSES!”). We had such an unbelievably fun time at this Montrose Mansion wedding that we’ve been gushing about it to everyone we know. Kerri and Bill, despite going to Lincoln’s rival high school Germantown Academy, are simply some of the coolest people we’ve met. After making things official at Villanova’s St Thomas Chapel, we toured Philly with their wild bridal party and an old school boom box blasting. Walking around the city with a bridal party is always the best feeling because everyone you see is cheering and congratulating you as if you were a celebrity; I love it! We explored the Art Museum stairs and the Rodin Museum before making our way back to the Montrose Mansion wedding venue in Villanova for an exquisite cocktail hour and reception. The speeches were touching, and the dance floor was absolutely crazy. Finally, Kerri and Bill went above and beyond and picked out a special gift for us: a ‘Summer Love’ 6-pack and cute glasses with Philly pretzels on them! How cool is that?? We’ll never forget this day!

Side Note: This day also represented a major first for Lincoln, because as he dove (read: crouched) to the ground, his all-too-slim-fit pants split wide open as Kerri and Bill made their grand exit from the Villanova Chapel. Somehow, no one really seemed to notice and we were able to grab an extra pair. We have triple backups for all of our camera equipment, and now Lincoln will have to bring backup pants to each wedding haha. Barn on Bridge Wedding by Robert Ryan | Alli & Ryan

Alli & Ryan’s personalities are so warm, loving, and gracious that you simply want to be around them all day. Alli was so thoughtful with all of the sweet little details she designed. For something old, she tied a locket with pictures of her Nana and Pop-Pop around her bouquet. For something blue, she had a small heart shaped piece of her dad’s old blue handkerchief sewn into the inside of her dress, over her heart. It’s weddings like these that leave us grinning from ear to ear, which is probably precisely what Alli & Ryan are doing right now on their honeymoon to St. Lucia. Color me jealous.

By the way, we love first looks. They’re really a win/win for everyone at the wedding. The bride and groom get to share an intimate, unforgettable moment, and it allows for a more relaxed time to capture portraits before guests arrive. This rustic bridge across the street from the venue was the perfect spot for the big reveal, and Ryan’s reaction was priceless! Lincoln almost fell in the river getting the shot, but that was a chance I was willing to take ;)

Side note: It’s always a treat to photograph any of the Robert Ryan wedding venues. This marks our third time this season working with Robert Ryan’s magnificently effective wedding coordinator: Barbara. She’s a prime example of how choosing the right coordinator can avoid all wedding day stress. Brides should be rejoicing on their wedding day, not hung up on orchestrating details!

Curtis Center Wedding by Cescaphe | Lauren & Bill

Lauren and Bill are a special kind of couple – amazing, fun, and up for ANYTHING! Combine that with the Curtis Center wedding venue, and we knew it was going to be an epic day. Lauren was smart enough to build some solid buffer into her timeline, which allowed us to be very spontaneous when roaming the streets of Philly. Case in point, while driving in the Cescaphe trolley, we saw a ferris wheel outside of the Art Museum and had no choice but to hop on board! We even hit some carnival games…who gets to do that on their wedding day!? Lauren was ecstatic the entire day, and at one point declared: “This really is the best day of my life!” She was glowing with joy from start to finish, which makes our job much easier!

The trolley’s last stop was the Atrium at the Curtis Center wedding venue by Cescaphe. I’m not kidding when I say the Cescaphe Event Group is legendary in the Philadelphia wedding scene. Imagine a dream team of planners/designers that spare no expense to custom create a wildly extravagant wedding experience. Everyone was going crazy when the Philly Phanatic made an appearance during cocktail hour, and even Benjamin Franklin showed up! The fall wedding decor was done to perfection, and a super romantic ceremony was the whipped cream on top of the pumpkin spiced latte ;) The wedding band Milan 77 was crazy good and kept the dance floor PACKED the entire night, including a moment I’ll never forget as Lincoln got called out into the middle of the dance floor to bust some impromptu moves!

Liberty State Park Engagement Session in Jersey City

Brace yourself, because this is an especially epic engagement session. As some blog stalkers may know, Lincoln and I used to reside in New York’s Upper East Side. Thus, we jump at any chance to photograph near our old NYC stomping grounds. So when Tara & Matt told us that they lived in Jersey City and asked how we felt about photographing an engagement session at Liberty State Park, we excitedly agreed! Lincoln and I love traveling, and we find that visiting/discovering new places supercharges our creative juices. Now, since Liberty State Park overlooks the beautiful Manhattan skyline from New Jersey, it becomes swamped with locals, tourists and photographers during the day, BUT Tara and Matt were dedicated enough to start the engagement session at 7:30am (oh and don’t forget to give Lincoln and I some credit for waking up at 3:50am to travel to and scout the location!). By starting the engagement session early, we were able to avoid the crowds and also enjoy some absolutely heavenly morning light.

Tara and Matt came to the session full of energy, perhaps they’re morning people…or maybe they love coffee as much as we do. Either way, it’s so much fun (and easier!) to photograph couples that are just as excited as us to be there. None of our wedding clients are professional posers (though one of our recent favs told us that he practiced smiling in the mirror haha), so it’s all about keeping things fun/candid and laughing at the bad jokes we make. This engagement session is case in point, because you can tell that their true personalities absolutely shine through. Their cute little puppy, Piper, was perfectly well behaved, which we hope will translate to an appearance/role during the wedding!

Also, choosing to have a Liberty State Park engagement session was the perfect choice because they have a personal connection to the location: Tara and Matt live nearby and often run through the park, and the New York skyline commemorates their fond memories with the city. Also of note, Tara and Matt are just as obsessed with Disney as we are (that’s where Lincoln and I went on our honeymoon!), and they visit Disney every year to run in a race. We can’t wait until their Anthony Wayne House wedding next June! Update: Tara and Matt are now happily married and their blog post is live!
