Philadelphia Barn Wedding | Michelle & Mark

Michelle and Mark are such a relaxed, easy-going couple that they make everyone around them so feel chill and comfortable. It was pretty clear that their friends and family adore them and we felt the same way! We got to know them last year when we photographed their engagement session at Penn State (WE ARE!) and there is nothing we love more than fellow Penn Staters! They are down-to-earth and such good people – it made our job so enjoyable!

Barn on Bridge is a perfect spot for a Philadelphia barn wedding and has rustic chic down to a science; Michelle definitely put her own spin on things too! We loved the metallic gold balloons spelling out LOVE at the reception (how appropriate!) and the monogrammed yard games for guests to enjoy during the cocktail hour! Playful details like that just show what a fun couple they are!

Mountain Valley Golf Course Wedding | Mallory & Mike

Ron Burgundy once said “I am going to get married on top of a mountain, and there’s going to be flutes playing and trombones and flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And we will dance till the sun rises. And then our children will form a family band. And we will tour the countryside and you won’t be invited.” Now luckily for us, guests were invited, and although there weren’t flutes playing, there was an amazing guitar soloist on the edge of a cliff, and it was in fact on top of a mountain.

The morale of the story is, if you ever find yourself wondering if you should get married to the man of your dreams on top of a mountain, your answer should be a resounding YES! As wedding photographers, we’ve seen our couples get married in all sorts of creative ways, and now we can add ‘at the edge of a mountain cliff’ to the list!

The day started off in the quaint town of Orwigsburg, Pennsylvania, which is quite literally a ‘one stoplight’ kind of town. As Mallory slipped into her stunning Lazaro dress and was giddy with excitement, my own hubby was across town with Mike and the guys. We all couldn’t help but look at the sky as rain clouds began forming, which of course caused everyone to invent their own rain dance in an attempt to prevent what seemed inevitable. Remember, this is an outdoor mountain ceremony we’re talking about, which doesn’t mix very well with rain! Though some how this time was different, and someone must have nailed the best rain dance ever, because the rain held off in time for what was to be a jaw dropping ceremony. Even Mike, undeniably a man’s man, got a little choked up as he saw his soon-to-be wife clutch her father’s arm while walking down the aisle. It was romantic, it was beautiful, it was perfect.

Our luck continued through the night into touching toasts and blissful dancing. When we asked Mallory and Mike if they would be interested in a night time shot they immediately looked excited. We’ve been stretching our brain power to the limit recently trying to come up with fresh and creative ideas for night portraits. We’ll typically have less than 5 minutes to pull it off, so we get everything set up beforehand so that our couple can hop in and then quickly make their way back to the dance floor. We got the shot and Lincoln showed them a few back-of-camera previews, and we were all over the moon happy that the day was such a overwhelming success that we hugged and talked outside for a few more minutes despite getting slightly rained on. It was just that kind of day and we had so much fun!

Greystone Hall Wedding in West Chester | Kristine & Sean

We are thrilled to have several Greystone Hall weddings this year! It is absolutely West Chester’s best kept secret, and guests are always blown away to discover such a hidden gem hidden deep in the woods. We’ve been looking forward to Kristine and Sean’s wedding ever since their engagement session at Longwood Gardens (I mean, anytime our job involves beer and tree forts we know we’re on the right track!).

Kristine first met Sean when they worked together at a sports collectibles store in King of Prussia. She was transferred to another location, but kept in touch. About a year after first meeting, Sean asked if she wanted to see his friend’s band play, which turned into their first date and the rest is history! I love their proposal story: they started a tradition of visiting the Longwood Gardens holiday display every winter. One year, there was a torrential snowfall, but Sean insisted they go anyway. They basically had the entire grounds to themselves. Eventually they made their way to the conservatory, and after taking a picture in front of the grand fireplace Sean dropped to one knee and asked Kristine to marry him! Doesn’t that melt your heart?

A lot of people compare Greystone Hall to the Clue Mansion from the board game, and it’s a lot of fun when the bride and groom are sneaking around pre-ceremony trying to avoid each other. Especially in this case, since Lincoln had to coordinate the groomsmen for numerous trips to the mansion’s martini bar! Greystone Hall has a beautiful garden ceremony setup, and Sean’s jaw dropped when he first saw Kristine emerge from the mansion in her stunning wedding dress (always our favorite moment!). The family was so touched when they heard Kristine and Sean recite the same wedding vows that Kristine’s grandparents spoke many years ago. For portraits, we were the only lucky Greystone Hall wedding this year to have the azaleas in full bloom, and they were unbelievably gorgeous! The party moved back to Greystone’s large outdoor patio, which is always covered by an expansive white tent (which actually makes our photography lighting extremely lovely and consistent). The dancing seemed to get better with every martini, and we witnessed the most epic cake smash yet (Kristine is a trooper!). We love you Kristine and Sean! We can’t wait to see where your journey goes next!

Ballroom at the Ben Wedding in Philadelphia | Sarah & Jared

Sarah and Jared’s Ballroom at the Ben wedding in Philadelphia represented 11 hours of pure joy for Lincoln and me. It’s quite rare for a bride and groom to show no signs of stress for an entire day, but these two pulled it off. Their faces reflected pure jubilance from start to finish, which as you can imagine makes our job SO much easier.

Sarah and Jared met at Villanova University, where they shared 5 of 7 engineering classes their sophomore year. Their friendship grew until they finally caved and began dating senior year. Upon graduation their jobs required a long distance relationship, but after 2.5 years of sad airport goodbyes Sarah’s company transferred her back to Philadelphia (and thus Jared!). Since they last graced our blog for their very popular Philadelphia engagement session involving Jared’s motorcycle, they worked their tails off to plan an undeniably epic Philadelphia wedding. One of our favorite details was how Sarah made all the bouquets and centerpieces by hand by crafting each flower petal from a mix of fabric types (organza, satin and chiffon). I mean look at those flowers! They look like they’re from the most extravagant florist and yet they will never wilt!

I (Jaime) began the wedding day with Sarah at the luxurious Loews Hotel in Philadelphia, where each bridesmaid finished their hair and makeup while wearing elegant flower robes. Lincoln started off at Jared’s house near Manayunk. Given their Villanova roots, the grandiose St Thomas of Villanova, where you have to reserve your wedding ceremony date years ahead of time! After the touching ceremony, we explored Villanova and the Philadelphia Museum of Art for portraits. This marked our first Ballroom at the Ben wedding reception (we’ll be there again later this year!), and the venue absolutely deserves all the attention it gets. You may recognize the ballroom from the big dance scene in the Silver Linings Playbook. The majestic architecture and lavish chandeliers set the stage for an epic night. Many of Sarah’s family members traveled all the way from India, and I’d say the trip was well worth it! We were unusually impressed by dance skills, and had to hold back tears of happiness during the heartfelt speeches. Lincoln and I had so much fun, and couldn’t stop laughing when Jared finished the night by snapping the cake knife in half (that’s a first!). We’ll miss spending so much time with these two, but are quite excited to see their adventure continue to unfold. Enjoy!

Brantwyn Estate Wedding | Jennifer & Randy

Whoever said rain on your wedding day is good luck…wasn’t lying. Jennifer & Randy’s Brantwyn Estate Wedding was easily one of our favorite weddings of the year. First of all, the DuPont Wedding Collection venues are absolutely pristine (and quite reminiscent of Downton Abbey). The staff is always exceptional and treats you like royalty. However, what truly made this wedding special was: Jennifer & Randy. They were wildly head over heels for each other…and I know that sounds cliché, but the proof is in the memory cards (as the photographer saying goes) and literally every part of the day is full of blissful images of Jennifer & Randy looking so incredibly happy.

There was a crucial point of the wedding day where Jennifer & Randy had to decide whether their Brantwyn Estate Wedding ceremony would take place indoors or outdoors. The storm lightning alarm at the nearby DuPont Country Club was not very encouraging, but Jennifer & Randy decided to go all-in and chase their dream of having an outdoor garden wedding ceremony. It paid off – big time! We witnessed one of the most surreally beautiful ceremonies as the storm loomed in the background. We had time for a few quick bride and groom portraits before the rain came pouring down. What was remarkable about this wedding was that Jennifer & Randy did not let the weather phase them one bit, in fact it actually added to the excitement of the day; a true testament to how these two are able to make the best out of any situation. For the closing image below, Lincoln and I really wanted to create a unique portrait to showcase the rainy good luck, and Jennifer & Randy were brave enough to let us try it!
